WORK > PRINT DESIGN > JAQUES 2008 BROCHURE

Background
As part of our ongoing work with the oldest sports and games manufacturer in the world, BRANDAMMO were asked to plan, design and produce Jaques of London’s 2008/2009 product brochure in support the brand's US launch and continued market growth in the UK.

The Brief
Established over 210 years ago in 1795, Jaques of London is the oldest sports and games manufacturer in the world. Currently owned and managed by direct descendents of founder Thomas Jaques (b.1765), the Jaques family today remain true to their ancestors’ commitment to quality and traditional methods of craftsmanship, which have ensured their success over the years. It was this attention to detail along with their long and distinguished history that Jaques wanted to focus on throughout the brochure - alongside their most recent product range of course.

Deliverables
BRANDAMMO planned, designed and managed the production of a 96-page brochure consisting of the Company’s entire product range and focusing on key achievements throughout their history.

Outcome
The brochure received extremely positive feedback from the Jaques family, their salesmen, retailers and customers. As a result the overall marketing approach and design style used throughout the brochure has been adopted and applied across all of Jaques’ marketing communications both on and offline.

Concept Creation
Since being established in 1795 Jaques have produced a wide range of family games – many of which we discovered featured beautiful hand drawn illustrations and design details. It was these vintage designs that inspired us at Brandammo to create a brochure that featured an eclectic mix of artistic styles – from early Victorian influence right up to the present day. Through the use of paper textures and illustrated design elements we also wanted to suggest a hand-produced look and feel with real attention to detail – values central to Jaques’ working philosophy.

Design Development
BRANDAMMO were responsible for every stage of the planning design and production of the brochure. At the initial stages this included the product photography and image retouching as well as sourcing of historical images and illustrations. Using textures, design elements and historical imagery our Surrey design team created a series of pages showing contemporary products on traditional-style background highlighting the link between the products today and the Company’s rich craftsmanship heritage. Further work included organising historical content, copywriting print production management. At the final stages of production BRANDAMMO oversaw the application of several finishing techniques, such as gold blocking on the front and back covers, which were used to further enhance the element of prestige, quality and attention to detail.
